Rand Paul said President Donald Trump is “sick” of the media, and said he would not be surprised if the president ordered his attorney general to resign.
In a tweet Tuesday, Paul said Trump is acting “like a sick child,” and urged him to seek medical care.
“If the president is sick, it means he has a medical condition that cannot be addressed by the legal system,” he said.
Paul, R-Ky., who is in the final weeks of his bid for reelection, has long warned of the potential for a constitutional crisis if Trump’s presidency is deemed to be in crisis.
The White House has refused to respond to questions about whether Trump is considering resigning, saying he has not been diagnosed with any disease.
“The president has a mental health condition and he is acting like a sick and tired child,” White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement.
Trump, a former reality TV star and real estate developer, is the latest president to be hospitalized.
In February, Vice President Mike Pence was hospitalized with a respiratory infection.
The president was hospitalized in March for pneumonia, and was hospitalized again in May for what the White House said was a blood clot that needed to be drained from his lungs.
